Go Green and Celebrate Earth Month at San Diego South Bay Earth Day Saturday April 7th + An Eco-Frie

One of my favorite months (April) starts in just a few days, and I'm so excited! Why? Because it also happens to be Earth Month, a time where the majority of the world takes notice about going green, being more eco-friendly, learning how we can reduce our carbon footprints, and hopefully prevent and even reverse further climate change. These are topics that I am passionate about and share ALL year long, but, I love that more people have open ears during April to learn about these types of things and live greener!

Which brings me to my announcement! We're lucky here in San Diego County, because not only do we actually have multiple Earth Days going on, Chula Vista is one of many cities in San Diego County

that has committed to achieve 100% renewable energy as part of their Climate Action Plan by 2035! Yes, that's right, we get to celebrate the Earth and being green (all shades of green are welcome, by the way) every day!

I'm excited to share with you guys that on Saturday, April 7th, The City of Chula Vista will be hosting the South Bay Earth Day, a FREE event open to the public that will be both fun AND educational to help inspire any and all that want to learn how to go green!

South Bay Earth Day

Chula Vista Marina at Bayside Park Map it

Saturday, April 7th -- 11:00am - 4:00 pm

Here's a glimpse at the agenda:

  • South Bay Earth Day will be a zero waste event, meaning the event will not generate any waste to send to the landfill. All materials used and disposed of are reusable, recyclable, or compostable. This just makes me so happy! Tip: Bring a reusable water bottle to help even further!

  • The evenT will be BYOB (Bring Your Own Bike, that is) - Dust off your wheels (and helmets) and get the whole family together to start the day with a guided bike tour of the Bayshore Bikeway. Meet in front of the Outback Steakhouse at Plaza Bonita Mall by 9:30am. The tour will begin at 10:00 am and will end at the free bicycle valet provided by the City at Bayside Park. At Bayside Park, children will be challenged to a Bicycle Rodeo. Participants will be entered into a raffle to win prizes such as tool kits, bicycle helmets and head lamps.

  • Fix-it Clinic: In a world filled with grab and go products and the constant demand for instant results, when something doesn’t work, many will throw it out and buy a new one. Because of this, our landfills are growing at an alarming rate and electronic waste has become the one of the largest pollution generators. So why not learn how to fix it?! Bring your broken, non-functioning things: electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, etc. for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. Workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item will all be provided! This is a family-friendly event: children are welcome! Limited to items you can hand-carry in. For more details and to register, please visit https://chulavistafixit.eventbrite.com/

  • Go green and get your healthy on! Browse the farmers market and enjoy delicious cuisine from some of San Diego County’s most popular organic or healthy food trucks. Side note: San Diego County has more organic farms than any other county in the country! AWESOME!

  • Attend one of the “Learn-To” workshops covering a wide range of topics from zero-waste cooking to gardening and green renovations.

  • Free yoga classes throughout the day by Kula Yoga.

  • Electric Vehicle Ride & Drive Have you always wanted to test drive those fancy electric cars that pass you by on the freeway? South Bay Earth Day is your chance to get a feel for the top energy efficient vehicles AND bicycles on the market!

  • Tie Dye Workshops Whether you're living the 60's, 70's, 90's, or current dream, get creative with DIY tie dye workshops!
